The cornerstone of this effort is a comprehensive survey designed to assess the needs, challenges, and aspirations of tourism & hospitality SMEs, specifically Black-owned tour operators. The survey results are the foundation for crafting tailored capacity-building programs and strategic interventions promoting inclusivity and economic growth.
The following universities are working in partnership with Disrupt for Change on the tourism & hospitality SMEs research project: University of Exeter (UK), Stellenbosch University (South Africa), Technologico de Monterrey (Mexico), Luiss Guido Carli University (Italy), and Azerbaijan State University of Economics (Asia). The research is made possible by UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)'s Future 17 SDG Initiative.
More than 200 small Black-owned tour operators across North America, South America, the Caribbean and Europe have been aggregated and targeted to receive and complete survey. Our goal is to achieve a 30% minimum of survey respondents.
Enhancing the sustainability, scalability, and profitability of marginalized tourism & hospitality businesses by fostering equitable opportunities in the travel and tourism industry.
Based on the efforts underway, we anticipate that data analysis and a final research study will be completed and available by July 1, 2025.
